Netball Teams do the double at Western Area League Finals
Lumen Christi had 3 teams competing at Junior, Intermediate and Senior Level in the western area finals on Thursday 12th December. After the unprecedented success of last year, we once again had a very successful term in netball with 3 of our 4 teams winning the Derry League.
The Junior team captained by Eimear Gillespie played an excellent game of Netball and won the game, against Mount Lourdes, Enniskillen. The two teams battled it out with only 6 goals separating the teams in the end. The team should be so proud of their achievement and they will build on this experience as they proceed to the Northern Ireland League Quarter Finals.

Frank Shang Year 9 Stars in Music Promise
Over the past year I have been participating in the Music Promise programme. This initiative helps inspire young musicians like myself to boost their confidence when performing on stage. I have experienced many highlights participating in this programme, one of them being the chance to perform with the Ulster Orchestra in the Venue in May. It was a new experience not only for me, but for the orchestra as well as they had to get used to accompanying a piano. During all this, I have been filmed and I'm really lucky to have been chosen as one of the 13 musicians to appear on TV. It was a fantastic experience. Everyone in the group was friendly and supportive to each other.
The first 5 episodes were broadcast on CBBC from the 4th November. There is a new set being broadcast presently on BBC Northern Ireland called Music City. It includes 5 episodes being broadcast on Monday nights at 7.30pm and will have a couple more episodes online.
The organisers of the Music Promise initiative describe Frank as follows:
"Pianist Frank is an exemplary young man and is no stranger to hard graft. He is a great example of hard work and determination for any for any young person".
Well done Frank!

Student Council Anti- Bullying competition
This year the Student council decided to promote anti-bullying week by organising a poster competition among the year 8 pupils. The idea was to get the pupils to think about the impact that all types of bullying has on young people. The winning poster was designed by Jennifer Devlin of 8E. Her poster has now been reproduced and is displayed around the school. Congratulations to Jennifer from all of the Student Council.

Senior Student Council Members attend Let's Talk
On Friday 15th November, five of the council members represented Lumen Christi at the yearly "Let's Talk" event hosted by the Peace and Reconciliation Group. The event was chaired by local journalist, Paul Mc Fadden, and pupils from all of the local post primary schools were in attendance. The council were given the opportunity to question local politicians on any topic of their choice. Our pupils questioned the panel on the lack of funding for Magee University and the plans for the A5 road improvement scheme. The council also got an opportunity to participate in the political "speed dating" event where they were able to put the politicians through their paces on a variety of topics. It was a great event and our student council were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Thanks to Tiarnan, Matthew, Katie, Blaise and Mark for representing the council and Oran and Fiachra who were there as representatives of the Peace and Reconciliation group. Francesca Deane was also in attendance as part of her Politics class.
