Onatti French Theatre Performance
On Thursday 19th October, the French department welcomed Onatti Theatre group to perform the play ‘Mes Chers Voisins’ to our Year 9 and 10 French students. The assembly hall came alive with this engaging and fun play, which looks at the lives of five teenagers who live on the same street. Onatti Theatre group is a regular visitor to Lumen Christi and their plays are always well received by our junior pupils. This year was no exception with both year groups fully engaged from the onset. The plays are a fantastic opportunity for students to practise their French in a real life context as the language in the script is pitched just right to ensure active participation. Bravo to our students Mark Morrison 10D, Stathi Skentos 10A, Niall Cartin 10B and Paul Downey 9D who all appeared on stage! The actors Lhoni-Botte and Axel Perin were very impressed with our pupils’ enthusiasm and level of French. We look forward to welcoming Onatti back next year with another entertaining play!
Ulster Schools Swimming Cup and Championship 2017
The Ulster Schools Swimming Championships took place on Saturday 21st October in Bangor. Lumen Christi College was represented once again by a strong team of swimmers.
The team consisted of Rosie Byrne, Clara Mullan, Aileen McAlinden, Amy Lundy, Ryan Lundy, Flionn McLaughlin, Seamus Meenan, Liam Sheedy, Oonagh Payne, Magali Wing, Mark Mallett, Ellen Mallett, Eoin McBrearty and Harry Parlour.
The standard was extremely high, with many races being decided by tenths of seconds. All pupils performed well throughout the competition with many recording personal best times in their individual events and indeed some pupils beat their previous times by significant margins.
Four pupils made the finals of both of their events, Liam Sheedy, Oonagh Payne, Mark Mallett and Ellen Mallett. Mark Mallett and Ellen Mallett achieved a fourth place and a fifth place respectively. Oonagh Payne and Liam Sheedy were awarded a Bronze medal each.
Congratulations to all pupils involved.

Year 8 EDL French Breakfast
On Wednesday 27th September, as part of our departmental celebrations for European Day of Languages, the French Department hosted our annual petit déjeuner à la française (French Breakfast) for all Year 8 pupils and their Form Tutors in the College canteen. Students and staff were able to to savour an authentic French breakfast with croissant, pain au chocolat and a drink of chocolat chaud, all whilst listening to some traditional French café music! This was a great way to formally welcome our new cohort of Year 8 students and allow the students and their Form Teacher a chance to get to know each other a little better!
