French Careers Event
The French Department hosted a Careers Event on Monday 27th January 2014 for Year 10 and Year 12 French students. They were delighted to have in attendance, Dr David Barr, Head of School of Modern Languages and a Distinguished Teaching Fellow at the University of Ulster and Christina Mc Beth, a former pupil who graduated in Law and French. Both Dr Barr and Christina extolled the benefits of studying a language not only in terms of increased career prospects but also in terms of developing key employability skills, notably communication, negotiation, people skills, self- reliance. In addition, the experiences gained from spending extensive time abroad in the Target Language Country are life changing and allow students to become independent, grow in confidence and experience different cultures thus broadening their horizons. Both speakers were truly inspiring and gave pupils food for thought with regards to subject choices.
