Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award 2017
Duke of Edinburgh students with Mrs Harkin (School DOE Co-ordinator) and Mr Lawrence McBride (Far + Wild Leader) who successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award 2017.
Sentinus Workshop
The Careers Department hosted a Sentinus Robotics workshop for Year 10 studnet who used coding to allow the robots to operate.
Oxford University Visit
The Careers Department hosted a talk from Oxford University by Alice Parrott, School Recruitment Officer. In addition to Lumen Christi College students, students from Thornhill College, Foyle College, St Columb’s College, St Mary’s College, Strabane Academy and Holy Cross College were also in attendance.
Trocaire Presentation...
Lumen Christi students present Roisin O’Hara, Trocaire, with a cheque for £2600 that was raised through a variety of initiatives over the past 6 months.
Francofest 2018
Bravo to Year 10 students Caitlin Kelly, Morgan Reid, Magali Wing and Katie Blair who represented our school at ‘Francofest’, a simulated Trade Fair hosted by NICILT, at Queen’s University. Students created a most-impressive ‘Petit livre de recettes pour les petits chefs’ (a little recipe book for little chefs) and used their French skills to ‘market’ their product to professional linguists. They later enjoyed a guided tour of Queen’s campus and listened to Monsieur Benoît Le Dévédec from the Institut Français on the benefits of learning French and its relevance for future employability.
Pope John Paul II Award
Lumen Christi students who received the Pope John Paul II Award from His Excellency Archbishop Jude Okolo, Papal Nuncio to Ireland and Bishop Donal McKeown, Bishop of Derry.
Northern Ireland Netball International
Congratulations to our Year 12 student who has been selected for the Northern Ireland Netball squad of 12 travelling to Dublin to play in the U-17 European Championships on 2nd-4th March. The PE department is very proud!
Congratulations to Swimmers Ellen & Mark Mallett
Congratulations to Year 10 students Ellen and Mark Mallett who made qualifying times at the Mc Cullough International Swimming Gala at the weekend. Both swam very well with Mark taking Silver in a very tightly contested 200m backstroke final. Well done!
NICILT A level Spanish Debate
The Lumen Christi Team, Cait Grant, Catherine Pierse and Megan O’Doherty who performed exceptionally well and were runners up in the Debate. Cait also won Best Speaker for her debate. Congratulations to all three for their preparation and hard work.
Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Tai Chi Course
Lumen Christi College Extended Schools is running a free five week Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Tai Chi course starting Tuesday 20th February.
The course will run from 5 to 6 pm in the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Bring IT On
Year 13 Digital Technology and SSD students attending a presentation delivered by Joanne Sweeney, Project Associate with Sentinus. the aim of which was to provide information about the skills requirements and career opportunities within the IT sector in NI.
Careers Event by the University of Ulster
Year 13 students attended a Careers presentation from the University of Ulster, outlining the wide range of courses available to study including Stratified Medicine, Health Sciences, Social Work, Nursing and Law to name but a few.
The Careers Dept hosted Female IT Specialists from local IT Companies
The Careers Dept, hosted a group of female IT specialists from local IT companies. Allstate and Fujitsu came to talk to our Year 9 girls about the career opportunities within the world of IT in order to promote the future generation of female technologists.
