Pupils also enjoyed a Martial Arts Performance, a Mongolian Dance display and an Instrumental performance. Pupils then joined together to learn an ethnic dance and the celebrations were rounded off with a Quiz on China. 10D Get an Insight into Voting
Political blogger Alan Meban (better known online as @alaninbelfast) brought Stratagem's Mock Election Count exercise to Lumen Christi on 7th February. As part of their LLW programme, students in class 10D voted using the method of Proportional Representation - Single Transferable Vote - that will be used in the forthcoming NI Assembly elections. Desserts replaced politicians and once everyone had voted the class used the procedure that will be followed in the Foyle Arena to verify the papers in the ballot box before the counting could begin. Apple Tart was deemed elected at the end of the first stage, with the highest number of first preference votes, and exceeding the quota by a massive 50%. Once its surplus was transferred to the remaining candidates (using voters' lesser preferences), the least popular candidates were gradually excluded - including the independent Cheeseboard who had hoped to bring a new style of dessert to the modern dinner table - and finally the remaining four sugary candidates were elected by the end of the first stage: Pavlova, Crème Brûlée, Cheesecake and Banoffee. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the workshops, and a special word of thanks to Alan for his input.
