Blaithin Thomasius Year 14 Attends Anne Frank Annual Lunch to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.
Last year I was chosen as a tour guide at an exhibition portraying the life of Anne Frank and her role in tackling racism and discrimination in today's society. The charitable organisation behind the project, The Anne Frank Trust, campaigns to end hate crimes and damaging social attitudes by bringing the message of Anne Frank's Diary to schools, prisons and communities. I was amazed by the passion and far-reaching extent of the Trust’s work, so earlier this year when they asked me to come to London to feature in a video to promote their work, I was delighted to assist.
I was further honoured to receive an invitation to view the screening of the fundraising film at their annual lunch in January to mark Holocaust Memorial day. The event was held in the Hilton Hotel London and was attended by Holocaust survivors, victims of Hate crimes and of terrorist attacks in the Middle East; all truly inspiring people, who like Anne, use their horrifying experiences to campaign for equality and an end to ignorance.
The Trust raised a record-breaking £440, 000 through the event at which guest speaker the Rt Hon Theresa May MP praised the Trust's work.
I'm extremely grateful to Mr Hegarty for giving me the opportunity to become involved with such a fantastic organisation and I would strongly urge everyone to support the Trust in any way they can.
